Construction Management

Project:
I-580/I-680 Interchange

Client:
City of Dublin, California

The I-580/I-680 interchange was a notorious traffic problem for the rapidly expanding San Francisco Bay Area. The interchange is at the crossroads of two of Alameda County’s most important arteries. Over 275,000 vehicles a day pass through the interchange. The $60 million project included replacing a portion of the existing four-quadrant cloverleaf interchange with new two-lane aerial connectors from Southbound I-680 to Eastbound I-580 and Northbound I-680 to Eastbound I-580. Several local street improvements were also made to allow easier access, including ramps in Dublin and direct access to Hopyard Road in Pleasanton from northbound and southbound I-680.

For this project, TRS provided roadway and structure construction contract administration, construction management and inspection. TRS responsibilities included monitoring compliance with plans and specifications, plan review, traffic control, progress payments, change order processing, review of extra work bills, schedule analysis, and claims resolution. Inspection work included signal modifications, lighting improvements, relocation of joint trenches, paving/asphalt, electrical, landscaping and drainage systems. TRS kept close coordination with the cities of Dublin and Pleasanton, local businesses and the public to maintain access to existing business areas.

TRS monitored traffic handling, traffic control, detours, staging, stage construction plans as well as contractor safety. TRS also aided public relations efforts, including updating the information hotline. With TRS providing construction management solutions the project finished 1½ years ahead of schedule and $10 million under budget.
