Project:
Sand Hill Road Projects

Client:
Stanford Management Company and City of Palo Alto, California

The $334 million initiative was approved by the Stanford Management Company and the Palo Alto City Council to extend Sand Hill Road from its current dead end, at the Stanford Shopping Center parking lot, to El Camino Real. This initiative included widening most of Sand Hill Road from two to four lanes. In addition, a 628-unit rental apartment complex for faculty and employees as well as 388 units of market-rate senior housing were built along that road. The project also expanded the Stanford Shopping Center by 80,000 square feet.

TRS was awarded the contract by the City of Palo Alto to provide management services for the Sand Hill Corridor Projects. The services included project orientation, which focused on City Council-approved mitigation measures, conditions of approval and project plans. They also included subsequent Architectural Review Board (ARB) approved plans including conditions of approval. TRS provided services for managing plan checking, permit issuance, construction inspections, staff assistance, traffic engineering, geological services and real estate surveyor services.

The work also includes: construction of new underground utilities (including storm and sanitary sewer systems), water service, 12 KV electrical distribution, as well as the widening of Sand Hill Road, Vineyard Avenue, Arboretum Road, Quary Road and El Camino Real. Sanitary sewer improvements consist of the installation of 2,500 feet of sanitary sewer mains, servicing the 628-unit Stanford West Apartments and approximately 4,100 feet of sanitary sewer mains for the various roads in the Sand Hill area and Stanford Shopping Center.
